Do you love a good inspirational quote? I know I do. Here are four that really struck a chord with me and taught me an important life lesson.

If you avoid conflict to keep the peace, you start a war inside yourself.
– Cheryl Richardson

The other week I was complaining to my mum about one of my neighbours, and how I was trying to resolve the issue directly with her before reporting it to strata.
“Careful,” my mum said, “You don’t want to upset her.”
“But I’m upset,” I yelled. “Why should I keep quiet and be angry so she can be happy?”
I was so mad afterwards as this is the kind of mentality I’ve grown up with. You don’t tell people when you’re angry or upset, you suffer in silence to avoid an argument and not upset anyone.

Life lesson: A self-care reminder to always be brave enough to speak your truth. If you don’t, you’re only hurting yourself, and why on earth would you want to do that.

There are only four rules you need to remember:
1. Make the plan
2. Execute the plan
3. Expect the plan to go off the rails
4. Throw away the plan
Follow my lead and you’ll be fine.
– Leonard Snart

I was watching old episodes of The Flash the other week, and I fell in love with this quote from Leonard Snart. Although it was intended as comic relief, it’s so true. Both in business and life you have to be prepared for things to not go according to plan.

Life lesson: Never give up. Be prepared to adjust the plan as you go.

Adult friendships are less about where you come from or what school you went to, and more about where you’re heading in life.
– Charlie Hale

Discovered this whilst reading an article in the first issue of Wellbeing Wild magazine. It gave me one of those aha moments. As a side hustling soloprenuer my focus for the year has been work, work, work. As a result I’ve gravitated towards business connections who share the same struggles. Who are heading in the same direction in life as I am. These are the adult friendships I want to cultivate.
Life lesson: Don’t be afraid to say goodbye to friendships that no longer provide value.

Everything happens for a reason. Sometimes the reason is that you are stupid and make bad decision.
– Unknown

Hands up if you’ve made some bad career moves over the years?

On more than one occasion, I’ve been guilty of accepting the wrong job just to leave the current wrong job. I always try to look on the positive though and appreciate what I learnt from that role. Like how to use MailChimp or SurveyMonkey. I’m also still good friends with some of the people I met in those wrong jobs.

The last job I left really tested my ability to find the lesson and the reason I was meant to work there. Then the Media Buyer the company used offered me a sub-contractor role managing his client’s Facebook page. I jumped at the opportunity and registered for an ABN. Just like that, I went from daydreaming about being a freelancer to sole business owner. Woo hoo! And I reckon that’s the smartest career move I’ve ever made.

Life lesson: Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. The important thing is to learn from them.
